GN Resound is dedicated to providing the industry's most advanced digital and non-digital hearing instruments. Our products are offered under the brand names Canta and ReSound.
All our fully digital instruments share the same patented software-based technology, with its unprecedented versatility and sound processing power. And both the Canta series and ReSound lines include the most sophisticated digitally programmable technology available in non-digital hearing instruments: multi-band, full dynamic range compression.
GN ReSound's fully digital Canta series and ReSound Digital 5000 hearing instruments are fundamentally different from other digital instruments. Not only do they offer the CD sound quality of digital technology, they have over twice the processing power of previous digital products. Moreover, they're the first software-based hearing instruments, able to run several sound processing programs at once.
As a result, GN ReSound digital instruments can simply do more than other digital instruments. To better conform to individual hearing needs, they divide sound into 14 adjustable frequency bands - far more than other hearing instruments can offer. To aid with conversation, they offer digital directional amplification, for focused listening in a crowded room. For added listening comfort, they dampen sounds commonly regarded as noise - fans, traffic, the murmur of many voices - while leaving the sound of a single voice untouched. And they offer a dramatic breakthrough in hearing technology: active feedback elimination - the whistle-free hearing instrument.
Taken together, these capabilities add up to listening comfort and enjoyment previously unavailable in hearing instruments.
Canta7 is the first new hearing instrument to be launched by GN ReSound. It is the first 3D digital hearing instrument to be designed for our multi-dimensional world of sound. This advanced new instrument has taken the proven technology that GN ReSound is known for, refined it and added new technology and algorithms.
Digital Cochlea Dynamics is a signal processing rationale that replicates the lost physiological function of the outer hair cells. To accomplish this, it uses a low compression threshold, compression ratios ranging from 1:1 to 3:1 and fast attack and release times. Additionally, we use a series of highly overlapping filter banks for fine control of frequency response and better preservation of spectral contrast. This finely tuned signal processing system provides clear, comfortable sound quality for your patients.
Hearing instruments that address consumer complaints of poor performance in noise have historically provided the highest level of patient satisfaction. Canta7 hearing instruments utilize Dual Microphone technology combined with an Adaptive Directionality algorithm to enhance speech intelligibility in noise. This means that the loudest signal in the rear plane of the patient is always receiving the maximum attenuation. In addition, Canta7 utilizes Active Microphone Matching to continuously calibrate the dual microphones throughout the life of the hearing instrument. This ensures that the directionality works optimally throughout the life of the hearing instrument.
The LASER speech enhancement system found in Canta7 instruments consists of two separate algorithms. The first is a 14-band noise reduction system. This system first identifies whether the signal is speech or noise and then, it reduces the gain in the bands where noise is present by either 5, 8 or 12 dB. This noise reduction system also utilizes extremely fast time constants, which allows us to attenuate the noise even between syllables. Canta7 also employs the world's first ear level spectral enhancement system. Spectral enhancement allows us to exaggerate the spectral contrast to the point where the internal representation of the spectrally enhanced signal in the impaired ear resembles the internal representation of the natural signal in the unimpaired ear. The patient perception is a clean, clear sound.
Digital Feedback Suppression (DFS) is a "search & destroy" digital function that uses fixed and adaptive filters to monitor the input and listener's environment for feedback sources. When feedback is detected, DFS generates a signal of equal but opposite phase to cancel out the feedback without affect the gain or any other parameters in the hearing instrument. This allows the patient to use the telephone, wear a hat, etc. without annoying feedback. Canta7 provides unparalleled patient benefits. In addition, it is available in all models from Power BTE to CIC and is easily programmed through our Aventa fitting software. Canta7 is the ultimate solution for your patients.
We at GN ReSound not only recognize the need for advanced technology digital instruments. We also realize that it is important to offer high-end digital products at various price points. Therefore we have developed Canta4 product line to deliver advanced technology at a moderate price point.

The use of dual microphone directionality has been proven to enhance speech intelligibility in noise. Canta4 instruments utilize a static hypercardioid polar pattern to attenuate signals coming from the rear plane of the patient. All of the larger Canta4 instruments have dual microphones as a standard feature.
