Triangular Delta from Oticon targets younger consumers

SOMERSET, NJ – Oticon, Inc., has introduced Oticon Delta, a new hearing instrument designed to change the perception of hearing aids among the 50-plus generation.  Delta’s innovative triangular shape and such design features as sleek lines, vibrant colors, and brushed metallic surface appear to have more in common with high-tech communication devices or fashion accessories than traditional hearing aids.  The new ear “accessory” houses advanced digital technology aimed at boosting speech understanding for a younger generation of active hearing aid users with mild to moderate hearing loss.

Delta’s unique design is made possible by placing the receiver in the ear canal at the end of a thin, transparent sound wire.  This approach allows design innovations not otherwise possible and has resulted in a new category of hearing solutions that Oticon calls RITE (receiver in the ear).  With this design, Delta merges the cosmetic advantages of in-the-ear instruments with the technologic possibilities of behind-the-ear devices.

“This is definitely not your grandfather’s hearing aid!” said Peer Lauritsen, president of Oticon, Inc. “For the first time, we have a hearing device that combines cutting-edge digital technology with contemporary design to appeal to image-conscious, technology-savvy baby boomers.”

Inside its stylish exterior, Delta offers sophisticated sound processing technology.  Powered by Artificial Intelligence, the device features a dual-mode directional microphone system that works in unison with the TriState Noise Management system in a manner designed to provide the best voice-over-noise ratio on every situation.  The amplifier’s triangular shape ensures optimal positioning for the directional microphones.

Delta’s speaker, connected to the amplifier by an ultra-thin, transparent tube, is placed in the canal to ensure a flat, natural frequency response and high performance and comfort.  The open fitting delivers the amplified signal with a clear sound quality and without tube resonance.  The speaker is positioned in the ear with a dome, which contains wax protection and is easily replaced by the user when needed.

Delta comes in 17 different brushed metallic color styles, from “Cabernet Red” and “Samoa Blue” to “Racing Green” and “Wildlife.”  According to Oticon, the colors give Delta “a sleek and sexy styling that appeals to a new generation of hearing aid users.”  Plus, the company said, Delta’s modular set up makes it easy to change the look of the instrument, to suit the user’s preference.
